Your neighbor’s noise,
on the record.

NoiseTrail listens overnight and logs every thump, bass line and bark with the time, an approximate level and a short clip. Wake up to a timeline, a report and a letter you can send.

The problem

Noise is hard to prove.

It happens at 2 a.m. and it’s gone by morning. Landlords, HOAs and councils want dates, times and how long it lasted. A tired memory won’t cover it.

When did it happen?
Every event, with the date and time.
How long, and how often?
Minutes per night, nights per week.
How loud was it?
An approximate level for each one.
Can you show me?
A short clip you can play back.

How it works

Set it down. Go to sleep.

  1. 1

    Start it at bedtime.

Set your phone down near the wall, floor or ceiling the noise comes through, and leave it plugged in.

  2. 2

    It logs each noise.

Every event gets a time, a type, an approximate level and a short clip. Silence isn’t recorded.

  3. 3

    Wake up to the night.

See what happened on a timeline, play back any moment, and share only what you choose.

Knows the usual suspects

  • Footsteps
  • Thumps and bangs
  • Music and bass
  • Voices and parties
  • Barking
  • TV and radio
  • Power tools
  • Alarms
  • Roosters

What you get

Everything a complaint needs.

Every night at a glance.

See when it started, how long it went on and what it was. Tap any moment to hear it.

A report you can send.

A clean PDF with dates, times, lengths and approximate levels for the nights you pick.

The letter, written.

For a neighbor, landlord, HOA, the city or the police non-emergency line. Your log fills in the details.

See the pattern.

Which nights, which hours, which kinds of noise. A pattern is what makes a complaint stick.

It stays on your phone.

No account. Your log and clips stay on your phone until you choose to share them.

Honest about levels.

A phone is not a certified sound level meter, so levels are approximate. What persuades people is the pattern: dates, times, how long and how often.

Questions.

When can I get NoiseTrail?

NoiseTrail is coming soon to iPhone and Android. Ask for one email at launch, and try the free noise meter in the meantime.

Does it record all night?

It listens all night but keeps only the noisy moments, each as a short clip. Quiet time is not saved.

Are the decibel readings accurate?

They are approximate. Phone microphones vary and are not calibrated like a sound level meter, so treat the numbers as a guide. Times, lengths and how often it happens usually matter more.

Can I use the report as evidence?

You can share it with a landlord, HOA, council or the police as a record of what you heard. How they use it is up to them, and rules differ from place to place. It is not a certified measurement or legal advice.

Is it legal to record my neighbors?

Rules differ by country and state. Logging noise that reaches your own home is common, but recording private conversations can be restricted. Check your local rules before you share clips.

Where does my data go?

Nowhere. The log and clips stay on your phone unless you export or share them, and there is no account. See the privacy policy.
